The “(beyond) Doomsday Scrolling” Installation is an interdisciplinary collaboration between photographer Omer Kaplan and AnomalousCo - New York’s predominantly queer/women-led, feminist, immigrant theatre collective. This project emerged from AnomalousCo’s epic theatre-cabaret of the same name, about women, war, displacement, and resistance. “(beyond) Doomsday Scrolling” was initiated in 2022 in immediate response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and performed in multiple NYC venues and evolving iterations. The Theatre Times called the piece “Unlike anything seen in New York in the past decade.”

In 2023, Omer Kaplan began documenting the lives of the show’s performer-creators: 12 women and 1 man, from Ukraine, Russia, Cuba, Poland, Iceland, Italy, Moldova, Turkey, China, and the US. His photos and oral histories investigate the intersection between the creative material of performance and the personal and intergenerational trauma of war and migration experienced by the performers: where do they come from, how do they live now, what do they carry from homes left behind?

Building upon this material, the “(beyond) Doomsday Scrolling” Installation is an interdisciplinary photographic installation, interwoven with video, audio, live music and performances excerpted from the stage production.
